It’s Monday morning, and if you’re in the 70 percent of people who don’t like their jobs, you’re probably not all that excited about going to work. You likely went to sleep dreading the impending Monday morning. Or woke up Monday morning having to talk yourself out of calling in to work.
If you’re like I was, then not long after opening your eyes, you immediately start running down a list of tasks awaiting you at the office. If you manage people, you likely guessed at how many call-ins you would receive, and if you’re honest, you probably hoped for a call-in from THAT employee that keeps you praying for patience – because NOT TODAY.
After you’ve prepared yourself for doom and gloom, you hop in your car and think about dreading work all the way to work.
Listen, I get it. I’ve been there.
And I’ve learned that that’s not the best way to start your day.
Let’s entertain for a moment the idea of you starting your day differently.
What if you created a morning routine that empowers you to step into your day with intention, faith, and positive anticipation?
What if you got up Monday morning and took a moment to breathe? To talk to God and get centered. To do something that energizes you and elevates your mood. To declare good things over yourself and your day.
I can tell you from experience that if you create and practice an empowering morning routine, you are more likely to have a productive and satisfying day.
Setting your intentions is more about getting you into a state of being vs. doing. What do I mean by intentions? The dictionary defines intention as the end or object intended: purpose.
If we go with that definition, that means you’re starting your day setting or determining your intended purpose. Deciding the end from the beginning. You’re deciding how you want to experience life before you leave home.
Your intentions should be clear, simple, and positive and include at least one identity statement.
For example,
…today, I will focus only on what I can control.
…today, I will be more mindful of my words over my life and others.
…today, I will walk in God’s grace.
…I am more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus.
…I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
You don’t have to create a long list. One or two will do. You want to keep them top of mind. You also want your intentions to be powerful enough to re-center you when you feel off-centered. You want them to remind you of your intended state of being and get you back on track when you notice that you’re slipping away from your intentions.
Your daily intentions could be the same each day. Maybe you’re in a season where you want to focus on developing a specific character trait. Or you want to dial in on doing a certain activity for a defined period of time. It is okay to set your intentions for a season. The goal is to act with purpose and intention.
A mindful morning routine allows you to get centered and prepare yourself for the day. It’s your first mindful and intentional activity of the day.
My morning routine includes time of devotion, breath work, and working out. I discovered that I am the most energized and productive when I follow this routine.
By practicing a morning routine to set your daily intentions, you take control over how you will show up each day. You don’t leave yourself open to being tossed around however the wind blows. Most people do not like to feel like they have no control over their lives. That’s why it’s important to set your daily intentions.
Setting your daily intentions is a powerful practice that can transform your life. By starting your day with clear, positive intentions, you take control of your mindset and actions. This practice empowers you to face challenges with resilience and grace and to live each day with purpose and intention.
Remember, your intentions shape who you are becoming. They guide your actions and help you stay centered, even in the face of obstacles. By being mindful of your intentions throughout the day, you can align your actions with your desired state of being and create a more fulfilling and purposeful life.
So, take a moment each morning to set your intentions. Write them down, reflect on them, and let them guide you throughout the day. Embrace the power of daily intentions and watch as your life transforms for the better.
