If you’ve been hearing me talk about purpose-aligned living, holistic alignment, and transforming your life so you can experience greater clarity, peace, and impact, but you’re thinking, “This sounds great, but I don’t even know where to start,” this is for you.
That question – Where do I start? – is one of the most common questions I hear. And the answer is simpler than you might expect.
Lasting transformation begins with awareness.
You Can’t Create a Plan Without Knowing Your Starting Point
Anytime you’re trying to get somewhere new, the first thing you need to know is where you currently are. Once you identify your destination, you work backward to determine what needs to happen to get there.
The same principle applies to your life.
The first step to lasting change is a self-assessment. An honest look at your current quality of life. This means examining the key areas of your life and assessing your level of fulfillment in each one.
Not with judgment.
Not with shame.
But with honesty and compassion.
Awareness Requires Examination, Not Condemnation
The Bible encourages us to examine ourselves. That examination isn’t meant to condemn us. It’s meant to bring clarity.
Conviction is okay.
Condemnation is not.
When you assess your life honestly, you gain valuable insights. And information is an opportunity. Your assessment reveals your starting point, and wherever you are, it’s okay.
You may feel fulfilled in some areas and dissatisfied in others. That doesn’t mean anything is “wrong” with you. It simply means there’s room for growth.
From Awareness to Intention: Defining What You Want
One of the most important, yet often overlooked, aspects of transformation is identifying what you truly want.
Most people can clearly articulate what they don’t want.
But they struggle to describe what they do want.
This is your opportunity to change that.
Ask yourself:
- What would fulfillment look like in my relationship with God?
- How would my fulfilled self think about herself?
- How would I treat myself differently?
- What does a fulfilling career or purpose-driven life look like for me?
You need clarity on what you’re moving toward. Not just what you’re trying to leave behind.
And here’s something important to remember: what you want may evolve as you grow. That’s not failure, that’s evidence of transformation. A person who is no longer growing has become complacent. Growth means movement, refinement, and expansion.
Transformation Begins with Awareness
Transformation is a decision, and that decision starts with awareness.
When you know where you are and begin to clarify where you’re going, you create the foundation for real, lasting change.
And before I wrap this up, let me offer a pro tip, one that matters deeply.
Start with Vertical Alignment
If you don’t get your spiritual alignment right, your relationship with Jesus Christ, everything else will feel off.
When vertical alignment is missing, horizontal alignment in your life will always feel unstable. Purpose, peace, clarity, and fulfillment flow from spiritual alignment first.
So ask yourself:
Where am I right now?
And where am I trying to go?
If you don’t have clear answers yet, that’s okay. This is where the journey begins.
Closing the Gap Is the Process
The ultimate goal is to close the gap between where you are and where you want to be. That gap is the process, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach.
You are uniquely you.
Your process will be uniquely yours.
Support can be incredibly helpful along the way, but the first step is always awareness. When you’re willing to confront what is, and get honest about what you desire, you create momentum.
You can’t change what you’re not willing to face.
Your Next Step
If you’re ready to begin, start with an honest assessment of your life. Expand your awareness. Shift your focus from what’s missing to what’s possible.
This is how lasting transformation begins.
And this is where you start.
